Scripture:
Judges 6:15-16 "He said to Him, 'O Lord, how shall I deliver Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's house.' But the Lord said to him, 'Surely I will be with you, and you shall defeat Midian as one man.'" Cowboy Wisdom: A seasoned trail boss once told me, "Son, don't judge a horse by its bloodline or its age. I've seen colts outrun stallions and mustangs outwork thoroughbreds." God's got a peculiar way of picking His riders—He doesn't always go for the biggest, strongest, or most experienced. He goes for the available. Gideon pulled out his resume: wrong family, wrong position, wrong age. In his mind, he was the scrub horse when God needed a champion. But God wasn't looking at Gideon's pedigree; He was looking at his heart. Sometimes the best trail boss isn't the one with the most experience—it's the one willing to learn and follow directions. We do this same dance with God all the time. "I'm too young, too old, too inexperienced, too broken, too ordinary." We list all our disqualifications while God's looking at our availability. Remember, God doesn't call the equipped—He equips the called. The question isn't whether you're qualified; it's whether you're willing. Questions for Reflection:
Prayer Focus: Lord, help me stop making excuses about why I'm not the right person for Your calling. Instead of focusing on my limitations, help me trust in Your ability to work through me. Remind me that You specialize in using ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Make me available rather than qualified. Amen.
