The Soldier’s Calling

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-12 (NASB95)

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Cowboy Wisdom

Out on the range, a cowboy knows he's not riding through friendly territory every day. There are storms, rattlesnakes, and rough terrain that can test even the most seasoned rider. The Christian life ain't no different—Paul knew we're in a fight whether we signed up for it or not. The moment you put your brand on Jesus Christ, you became a soldier in His army, and Satan's got you in his sights.

Now, some folks think they can find a church where there ain't no problems, where everything's peaceful as a summer evening. But that's like looking for a cattle drive without dust. As long as Satan's loose and running wild, he's going to fight the work of Jesus Christ with everything he's got. The only ones who find relief from his attacks are those who've thrown up the white flag of surrender to him.

The early church understood this better than most. They didn't go looking for an easy ride—they meant to fight Satan clear to the end. They knew that taking a stand for the Lord means facing persecution, plain and simple. But here's the thing: God doesn't send His soldiers into battle unarmed. He's given us weapons, training, and the promise that He's fighting right alongside us.

Questions for Reflection

  • Have you accepted that the Christian life is spiritual warfare, or are you still looking for an easy path?

  • In what areas of your life are you currently experiencing spiritual opposition?

  • Are you training and preparing yourself spiritually, or have you become complacent?

Prayer Focus

Ask God to open your eyes to the spiritual battle around you. Pray for strength to stand firm against Satan's schemes. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you put on the full armor of God daily and to fight with courage and faith.
