Your Testimony is Your Greatest Tool

SCRIPTURE

Acts 22:3–5 (NASB95)

"I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city, educated under Gamaliel, strictly according to the law of our fathers, being zealous for God just as you all are today. I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and putting both men and women into prisons, as also the high priest and all the Council of the elders can testify. From them I also received letters to the brethren, and started off for Damascus in order to bring even those who were there to Jerusalem as prisoners to be punished."

 COWBOY WISDOM

A cowboy who's been bucked off a horse and gotten back on has something no book can teach — he's got a story. And that story carries a weight that a polished speech never will. Paul standing on those stairs, bloodied and chained, didn't open with a theological argument. He opened with his testimony. He told them exactly who he was, where he had come from, and what God had done to him on the road to Damascus. That's the power of a personal witness.

Many believers today feel like they don't know enough to share their faith. They think they need to have every doctrine buttoned up tight before they open their mouth. But notice that Paul simply told his story. He said: I was like you. I was zealous. I was wrong. And then Jesus met me. That's a testimony — and it's a tool every saved person has.

"And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony" (Revelation 12:11, NASB95).

There are people in your life who won't sit still for a sermon — but they'll listen to your story. They watched you before you were saved. They know where you've been. When they see what God has done in you, that's a living witness they can't argue with. Don't hide it out of embarrassment or think it's not dramatic enough. God doesn't need a Hollywood backstory; He just needs a willing voice. Saddle up and start telling what He's done for you.

QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION

  1. Could you clearly and briefly tell someone your personal testimony — who you were before Christ, how you came to faith, and how life has changed since? If not, what would help you get there?

  2. Who in your life might be more open to hearing your story than to hearing a theological argument? How might you find a natural opening to share it?

  3. Paul shared his testimony at least five times in Scripture. What does that tell you about the ongoing importance of your own story in your witness?

PRAYER FOCUS

Lord Jesus, thank You that my story — messy and ordinary as it feels to me — is proof of Your extraordinary grace. Help me to stop hiding it and start sharing it freely. Give me boldness to open my mouth when the moment comes, and give me words that are honest and simple and full of You. Use my testimony to reach someone who needs to hear that You can change a life. You changed mine. Amen.
