Enough Light for the Next Step
Scripture Reading: Psalm 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Cowboy Wisdom: When you're riding night herd under a new moon, the darkness can feel thick enough to cut with a knife. You can't see the whole pasture, can't make out the far fence line, and sometimes can't even see your horse's ears. But you know what? You don't need to see the whole ranch. You just need enough light to see where your horse's next step falls.
God didn't give Mary all the details. Gabriel gave her just enough information so she could make a willing response. That's how the Lord works most of the time. He gives us enough light for the next step, not a floodlight on the whole journey.
We want the full map, the complete plan, every detail lined out neat and tidy. But faith don't work that way. Faith is putting one foot in front of the other with the light you've got, trusting the Trail Boss knows where He's leading you.
Your word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path. Not a spotlight on the destination—a lamp for your feet. Just enough for the next step. And partner, that's all you need.
Questions for Reflection:
Where in your life are you demanding to see the whole picture before you'll move forward?
What "next step" is God asking you to take right now with the light you have?
How can you practice being content with lamp-light instead of always wanting floodlights?
Prayer Focus: Thank God that He gives you exactly what you need for each step. Ask Him to help you trust His guidance even when you can't see far down the trail. Pray for contentment with the light He provides today.
