Upset the World - Are You Ready?

Scripture: Acts 17:6 (NASB95)

When they did not find them, they began dragging Jason and some brethren before the city authorities, shouting, "These men who have upset the world have come here also."

Cowboy Wisdom

You know you've made a real impression on a trail town when the whole place is stirred up. Paul and Silas hadn't come in quiet — they'd turned lives upside down, built a fellowship, and rattled the powers that depended on people staying lost. Evil men don't form mobs against folks who don't matter. Opposition is sometimes the loudest sign that your work is having an effect.

The charge against them? "These men have upset the world." In any other courtroom, that would be slander. For a follower of Jesus, it ought to sound like a compliment. Sin turned the world wrong side up — and the church's job is to right it again. Not by force or politics, but by the unstoppable power of the Gospel turning hearts one at a time.

The same Gospel that stirred up Thessalonica is alive today. The problems our cities face — addiction, homelessness, broken families, racial division — are not bigger than the power of Jesus Christ. The question is whether those who carry His name will get off the fence, ride into the hard places, and start turning the herd toward hope.

Bible prophecy is unfolding. The return of the King is closer today than it was yesterday. When He came the first time, He came as a baby in a manger. When He comes again, He comes as the King of kings. The only question that matters is whether you are ready — and whether the people in your world know how to be ready too.

Questions for Reflection

  1. If someone looked at your life and your church's impact, would they say you have "upset" your community for Jesus? Why or why not?

  2. Opposition and jealousy from others is often a sign that the Gospel is working. How do you respond when sharing your faith causes friction?

  3. Are you ready for the return of Christ? Is there someone in your life who isn't — and what step will you take this week to change that?

Prayer Focus

Lord Jesus, You are coming back as King. Stir in me an urgency to live like it. Let my life, my words, and my church upset the comfortable darkness around me with the light of Your truth. Give me boldness to take a stand, to turn the herd, and to make sure everyone in my world knows that You are the way, the truth, and the life. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen.

"We need to get off our hands for Jesus — we need to take a stand for Jesus, tell everyone about Jesus, and turn the herd into an uproar for Jesus!"
