The Sacrifice of Praise
Scripture: "Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him, bless His name." - Psalm 100:4
Cowboy Wisdom:
The sacrifice God asks of us isn't cattle or grain—it's our praise. In every circumstance, whether life is going smoothly or falling apart, we can offer Him thanksgiving. This isn't about pretending everything is fine when it's not. It's about recognizing that even in our darkest moments, we have access to the Father through His Son.
Paul wrote some of the most powerful books of the New Testament from a prison cell. He chose to praise God in the darkness, and God used that faithfulness to bless generations of believers. When we sacrifice our right to complain and instead choose to give thanks, we open the door for God to work in powerful ways.
When you're stuck in a storm on the range with nothing but your horse and your faith, you learn real quick that complaining don't change the weather. But trusting God sure changes you. A wise cowboy knows that you can't control the drought or the flood, but you can control whether you keep trusting the One who sends the rain. That's the sacrifice of praise—choosing to thank God even when the skies look dark and the trail looks rough. I remember old-timers talking about the dust bowl days, when the land turned to powder and the sky turned black. Some ranchers cursed the heavens and gave up. But others—they held on to faith, kept working the land, kept thanking God for what little they had, and kept believing better days were coming. And you know what? Those faithful ones were still standing when the rains finally came. Praising God in the storm ain't about denying the storm exists—it's about knowing that the God who calms the storm is right there with you in the middle of it. That's the kind of faith that moves mountains and the kind of thanksgiving that transforms trials into testimonies.
