Because the Lord is Good

Scripture: "For the Lord is good; His lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations." - Psalm 100:5

Cowboy Wisdom:

Here's the reason behind everything we've explored this week: the Lord is good. Not sometimes good. Not good when we deserve it. Always good. His love never fails. His faithfulness never wavers. His promises never break. When everyone else lets you down, God never will.

Thankfulness is the opposite of selfishness. The selfish person takes credit for their blessings and claims they don't need God. But the mature Christian recognizes that life itself is a gift, and every blessing flows from God's generous hand. True joy doesn't come from having everything you want—it comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ. As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, let's remember that every day should be thanksgiving.

A good horse will carry you through rivers and over mountains, never leaving you stranded. God's faithfulness makes even the best horse look unreliable. He'll never leave you or forsake you—that's a promise you can stake your life on. Out on the frontier, a cowboy's word was his bond, and a handshake was as good as a contract. God's Word has stood the test of time for over 2,000 years, and His promises have never failed. You can trust Him when you can't trust anyone or anything else.

I've known cowboys who'd trust their favorite horse with their life—and rightly so. But even the best horse can stumble, get spooked, or go lame when you need him most. Not God. He's never thrown a rider, never balked at a challenge, never given up on the journey. Every single promise in His Word is backed by His character, and His character don't change with the seasons or circumstances. When the Bible says His lovingkindness is everlasting, that means it was there before you were born, it's there now in your mess, and it'll be there long after you've ridden off into your eternal sunset. That's the kind of goodness worth building your whole life on, friend. That's why every day ought to be Thanksgiving.

Questions for Reflection:

  1. In what specific ways have you seen God's goodness in your life recently?

  2. How does knowing God's love is everlasting change the way you face uncertainty?

  3. What practical steps can you take to make every day a day of thanksgiving?

Prayer Focus:

Thank God for His unchanging goodness and everlasting love. Praise Him for His faithfulness to you and to generations before you. Commit to trusting Him fully, letting go of control and letting God lead your life. Ask Him to help you live with a thankful heart every single day.
