Riding for the Brand
Scripture Focus: Acts 7:1-8 (Abraham's witness)
Cowboy Wisdom: Out on the range, when a cowboy "rides for the brand," it means he's loyal to the outfit he works for—through drought, stampede, or blizzard. Abraham rode for God's brand his whole life. The Lord told him to leave everything familiar and head to a land he'd never seen. Abraham didn't have a map, a guarantee, or even a timeline. But he saddled up anyway and trusted the trail boss.
Just like a cowboy trusts his horse to carry him through rough country, Abraham trusted God to lead him through uncertain territory. He waited years for God's promises—longer than it takes to break a wild mustang. But he never quit believing. God promised Abraham land he didn't own and descendants he didn't have. For years, Abraham looked at empty horizons and still believed God's Word.
When you put your name on God's witness list, you're saying you'll ride for His brand no matter what. You're declaring that Jesus Christ is your trail boss, and you'll follow Him even when the path gets rocky and you can't see what's around the next bend. Abraham became known as a friend of God—not because his faith was perfect, but because he kept riding when others would have turned back. That's the kind of witness that changes the world. That's the kind of faith that God is looking for in you and me today.
Questions for Reflection:
What "familiar territory" is God calling you to leave behind to follow Him more fully?
How patient are you when God's promises seem delayed? What does waiting well look like in your life?
In what ways can you demonstrate that you're "riding for God's brand" this week?
Prayer Focus: Ask God for Abraham-like faith to trust Him with new directions in your life, even when you can't see the destination. Pray for patience to wait on His timing and courage to leave your comfort zone when He calls.
