Different Trails to the Same Ranch

Scripture Focus: Acts 13:12 (NASB95)

"Then the proconsul believed when he saw what had happened, being amazed at the teaching of the Lord."

Cowboy Wisdom

I've known cowhands who came to work for the outfit in all kinds of ways. Some grew up on the ranch, raised from the time they could walk to ride and rope. Others came looking for work with experience from other spreads. And some showed up green as spring grass, never been on a horse in their lives, but something in them knew this was where they belonged. The thing is, they all ended up wearing the same brand and riding for the same boss.

Sergius Paulus needed to see a miracle—he needed God to strike that false prophet blind before he could believe. Some folks are like that. They need to see the hand of God move in an undeniable way before they'll trust. But others, they just hear the truth and believe it, simple as that. Neither way is better or worse—God knows what each soul needs to come home to Him.

The key is being like Sergius Paulus—knowing that what you've been hearing isn't enough and looking for more. That man had intelligence and good judgment, and he recognized that what Elymas was selling was fool's gold. He wanted the real thing. And when you're genuinely seeking truth, God will reveal Himself to you. Maybe through a miracle, maybe through His Word, maybe through a faithful believer sharing the gospel. However He does it, if you're truly looking, you're going to find Him. The question is: are you still searching, or have you settled for something less than the truth?

Questions for Reflection

  1. How did you come to faith in Christ? What did God use to draw you to Him?

  2. Are you still seeking to know God more deeply, or have you become complacent in your faith?

  3. Is there someone in your life right now who's searching for truth? How can you help point them to Jesus?

Prayer Focus

Thank God for how He revealed Himself to you. Pray for those you know who are still searching, that God would open their eyes to truth. Ask Him to use you as a faithful witness who proclaims His Word clearly.
