All Men are Created Equal

SCRIPTURE

Leviticus 19:15  You shall do no injustice in judgment; you shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly.

Galatians 3:28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Romans 2:11  For there is no partiality with God.

Cowboy Wisdom

The Declaration says “all men are created equal,” and folks sometimes trip over that, because a quick look around tells you we’re surely not the same. One hand ropes better, another sings better, another can figure numbers in his head faster than you can write ’em down. Our gifts, our looks, our smarts — those come in every size. But that’s not the equality the founders meant, and it’s not the one the Bible means either. We’re equal in worth before the God who made us, because “there is no partiality with God” (Romans 2:11).

God don’t size a man up by the fatness of his herd or the shine on his boots. “You shall not be partial to the poor nor defer to the great, but you are to judge your neighbor fairly” (Leviticus 19:15). The Lord looks past the outward getup and straight to the heart. And if the God of heaven refuses to play favorites, then those of us who claim His name have no business ranking folks by their bank account, their bloodline, or the truck they drove into the lot.

That’s the whole heart of a “come as you are” fellowship. The ground is level at the foot of the cross. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28). Jesus didn’t die for a select few with the right pedigree — He laid down His life for all of us. The rancher and the ranch hand kneel side by side, and both are washed by the same blood.

So take a good look around the corral this week. That person you’d never have picked to sit next to — God stamped His image on them same as He did on you, and Christ paid the same price for their soul. Treatin’ folks as equals isn’t just good manners; it’s livin’ out the truth of the gospel. Everyone is equal at the foot of the cross — no exceptions, no back rows.

Questions for Reflection

  1. Be honest — who are the folks you’re tempted to rank higher or lower based on money, background, or appearance?

  2. If God shows no partiality, what would it look like for you to treat the next person you meet as His image-bearer?

  3. How does knowing the ground is level at the foot of the cross shape the way you welcome newcomers into your church and your life?

Prayer Focus

Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve measured people by the wrong yardstick — by what they own, where they’re from, or how they look. You show no partiality, and You made every person in Your image. Give me eyes to see the worth You’ve placed in every soul, and a heart that welcomes others the way You welcomed me. Thank You that the ground is level at the foot of the cross. In Jesus’ name, amen.
